1985 年华南农业大学蔬菜学本科毕业,1991年取得蔬菜学硕士学位,2006年取得作物遗传育种学博士学位。1995年破格晋升为副教授,2001年晋升为教授。大学毕业后一直在华南农业大学园艺学院从事蔬菜栽培、营养生理、新品种选育、分子生物学等的教学、研究与推广工作。主持与参加国家、省市等科研项目近50多项,编写学术专著8部,以第一作者或通讯作者发表学术论文100多篇。
1989年获广东省中山市科学技术进步奖特等奖。1992年获广东省政府星火奖二等奖。1999年获深圳市人民政府科技进步奖二等奖。2001年获广东省农业技术推广奖一等奖。2002年获农业部丰收奖二等奖。2002 年被选为广东省高等学校 “千百十工程” 校级培养对象。2012年获广州市科技进步一等奖。2012年获广东省农业技术推广奖二等奖。2013年获农业部丰收奖二等奖。2014年获广东省科技进步二等奖。2014年被评为华南农业大学“教书育人、管理育人、服务育人”先进个人。2015年获华南农业大学扶贫工作先进个人。2016年在华南农业大学2013-2015年扶贫开发“规划到户、责任到人”工作中被评为“先进个人”。2018年获华南农业大学“三下乡”社会实践活动优秀指导老师。长期以来,与地方政府及企业建立了紧密的关系,协助地方或企业建立了多个蔬菜基地(包括供港蔬菜基地)。牵头联合中山大学、广东省农业科学院蔬菜所和植保所、广东省海洋大学等组建了一支产前、产中、产后多学科合作的全蔬菜产业链研究团队。
